Ottawa, ON – Shuvaloy Majumdar, Conservative Shadow Minister for Canada-U.S. Relations; Eric Duncan, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs; Stephanie Kusie, Conservative Shadow Minister for International Trade; and Pierre Paul-Hus, Conservative Quebec Lieutenant, released the following statement:

“President Trump’s latest tariffs are another unacceptable and unjustified attack on Canadian workers and our businesses. Canadians are not a punching bag. Their anxieties about their future have only been deepened. These tariffs must be withdrawn immediately.

“Fourteen months ago, Prime Minister Mark Carney described the breakdown in our relationship with the United States as the worst economic crisis since the Second World War.

“He was right. Canada is in a major crisis, and despite making promises to Canadians to secure a deal, the Liberals are failing to meet the moment with the urgency it deserves. Liberals have failed to explain anything to Canadians, obscuring transparency and relying on ad hominem attacks on the Opposition.

“President Trump is wrong to target Canadian workers and must reverse these tariffs immediately. And Mark Carney was wrong to surrender Canada’s leverage for over a year and a half, without actually working to secure the deal he promised.

“Conservatives will fight for our workers, our businesses, and for a strong, sovereign and united Canada, as we would have done over a year and a half ago.”
