Re. Infrastructure Funding in Budget 2025

As the Conservative Members of Parliament for the people of Richmond Hill South and Aurora – Oak Ridges – Richmond Hill, we will be voting against Mark Carney’s costly Liberal budget. With a staggering $78.3 billion deficit, this budget piles on an additional $90 billion in new inflationary spending — costing every Canadian household another $5,400. It increases our national debt by $10 million every hour — adding to the $1.35 trillion federal debt which had already more than doubled over the last decade. And it forces Canadians to pay $55.6 billion a year in interest to bankers and bondholders — more than the amount for the federal health transfer to provinces for healthcare. Canadians deserve an affordable budget for an affordable life, not another decade of costly Liberal waste.

We also strongly support local infrastructure investments, but the Liberals’ decision to selectively list out specific projects in a national budget without any specific amount pledged and timelines is blatant politicking. Communities deserve predictable funding commitments — not partisan announcements designed to score points on a sensitive issue. Meanwhile, the Liberal government has for years been slow to hold the Iranian regime to account, failing to match empty words with meaningful action. Senior-ranking IRGC officials continue to be allowed into Canada and roam our streets freely, intimidate our community, and even launder money in Canada with little consequence.

To be clear, our opposition to this costly Liberal budget does not diminish our unwavering support for the families and loved ones of the victims of Flight PS752. As Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, has said, it is Canada’s duty to honour the lives and memory of the victims and ensure that justice is served. Funding for the memorial is essential to honouring the 176 innocent lives taken by the Iranian regime, including 44 community members from Richmond Hill. We fully support ensuring this memorial moves forward with the dignity and respect it deserves.

The people of Richmond Hill can count on us to stand against higher taxes, higher deficits, higher debt, higher costs, and higher inflation — while standing firmly with the families of the victims of PS752 and advocating for real, non-partisan infrastructure investment in our community.
