FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on the Anniversary of the Statute of Westminster:

“Our great nation has built itself up over the centuries. The courageous men and women in uniform who have shaped our history have enabled us to achieve full sovereignty and control over our destiny.

“The sacrifice of our troops during the First World War in iconic military victories such as Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele forged a sense of national pride and solidarity. The reputation of Canadians was then fully established.

“Robert Borden championed the interests of a sovereign Canada following the Great War, and his strong voice ensured that Canada had its own delegation and independent seat when the Treaty of Versailles was signed.

“Strong Conservative voices raised for full powers from London. From a dominion under Robert Borden, to a formally autonomous nation under R.B. Bennett. Thanks to these great statesmen, Canada has become the master of its domestic and foreign policy.

“Today – just like decades ago – Conservatives are fighting for Canadians.”
