Weekly Wrap Up: Leading At Home

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – Tonight, as children across Canada crisscross their neighbourhoods for Halloween, Conservatives finish wrapping up another week fighting to restore Canada’s promise with an affordable budget for an affordable Canada.

It couldn’t come at a more important time. Food Banks Canada released an appalling report finding there were 2,165,766 visits to food banks in March, the highest in Canadian history, and nearly double what it was in 2019. Nearly 712,000 monthly visits were children – now representing one-third of food bank clients – an over 300,000 visit increase compared to 2019.

The report starkly warned that ten years of Liberal inflation and taxes are turning Canada into “a country where hunger is normalized.” That’s as 39 per cent of Canadians now experience food insecurity, and 10 per cent have used a food bank in the last year.

Also this week, after seeing the horrifying increase in intimate partner violence, Frank Caputo and Pierre Poilievre were joined by the family of Bailey McCourt to call on all parties to support Bill C-225, which would protect victims of domestic violence. Bailey was a young mother murdered by her ex-husband less than three hours after being convicted for assault and threats.

Conservatives also asked for an emergency debate on the ongoing crisis in our canola industry because of Beijing’s continued unjustified tariffs. While Carney was in Asia glad-handing with politicians, Conservatives demanded accountability for farmers left holding the bag after he failed to secure any relief.

His failure to negotiate wins wasn’t the only thing Carney hid from. This week, the House of Commons passed a Conservative motion ordering Carney’s Chief of Staff and the CEO of Brookfield to testify at the Ethics Committee on his continuing conflicts of interest and his involvement in tax dodging.

After a week of Liberal hurt and Conservative plans to turn it into hope, Pierre Poilievre delivered a keynote address at the ‘No More Sacrifices’ Youth Event, rejecting Carney’s demand that they sacrifice even more. Instead, he focused on restoring jobs, homes and hope to the generation Liberals have left behind.

While the Liberals desperately continue to distract from their cost-of-living failures by threatening a costly election, Conservatives spent the week leading on the issues that will restore Canada’s promise.

Happy Halloween and Let’s Go Blue Jays!
