When Will Liberals Take the IRGC Seriously?

Ottawa, ON – Yesterday, Canadians learned the tragic news that Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto died while executing a search warrant related to shootings at a synagogue and the US consulate. 

As the country mourned the passing of the fallen officer, The Globe and Mail reported that US prosecutors had linked these shootings to an IRGC-backed terrorist network responsible for 18 similar attacks across the US, Canada and Europe. 

The Liberal government had previously identified nearly 30 Iranian regime operatives who should be deported. That’s after Global News reported in 2023 that upwards of 700 individuals associated with the Iranian regime were operating in Canada.

But one year later, only one has been removed from Canada. Canadians are now living in fear as synagogues, community centres, businesses and even foreign consulates are being shot at.

That’s why Conservatives pressed Liberal Ministers at Question Period today on what actions the government is taking to protect our country and our people from IRGC operatives operating on our soil. The Liberals couldn’t answer whether they’ve deported any more than just one IRGC terrorist. Mealy-mouthed words, not concrete actions, filled the Liberal response.

Public safety is now a national security matter, and the public deserves direct answers. Yet under Mark Carney, Canadians are right to wonder if the Liberals take terrorism and foreign interference seriously. Canada has recognized the IRGC as a terrorist entity since 2024, but despite the Liberals repeating that line, they’ve done little to nothing to deport known IRGC terrorists.

It’s time for the Liberals to take this threat seriously and deliver decisive action that protects Canadians.
